Peat stack in Scotland. A fragile and important ecosystem.

Who We Are.

Peat and Repeat is an artist-run, not-for-profit, 501(c)3 cultural edition house producing artists’ prints, photographs, artists’ books, apparel, and ephemera to support artists and artist projects. Peat and Repeat, is now furthering its vision with artist-initiated in-situ environmental projects. These projects are expansive in nature and focused on long-term platforms that encourage working with and within our communities, near and far. Peat and Repeat is located in Ridgewood (Queens) New York.

Peat and Repeat supports the work of artists who are most often operating without financial safety nets.

Aside from buying work to support our projects, donations of any size are meaningful to us and yes, they are tax-deductible!

Our most recent fundraising video (from winter 2022/2023) that tells a little bit about who we are and what our mission is.

How we started:

Our name, Peat and Repeat was born from an ongoing joke that we shared about life’s repetitions, redundancies, rehashing, recycling, and reruns.

Since its inception in 2021, Peat and Repeat’s primary objective is to support artist projects through the sale of prints, editions, original works and ephemera. We initially started with the idea of universal pricing —i.e., all prints == same price. We did. While it was a great idea, it was not really sustainable and consequently, we have had to raise prices on some of the work, and change the edition sizes. Yet we maintain a commitment to a range of affordability. For some our prices are too high and for others, too low. What to do? The art marker, per se, is a fickled beast of sorts and morphing entity if we can call it that.

Even if you’ve never bought a work of art before, we welcome you.  We rely on this community of appreciators and buyers who help make the world go round and keep us in the green and fertile activity of the creative endeavor. As humans we are all in the mix.

What these artists have in common is the critical embrace of the subversive metaphor – the bird that doesn’t sing, squares that are not square, the pretty picture that’s ugly, the waking dream, the ghost in the machine.

Peat and Repeat is a community of artists, collectors, critics, and friends who engage in a visual challenge and reap the pleasure of being challenged by aesthetic puzzles and mind play. Purchasing our limited edition prints, books, and/or contributing with a donation helps us buy ink, paper, manage operations, keeps the lights on and enables us to reach our goals.

Madeleine Hykes, Content Manager, and Designer.

Madeleine was our master of strategic planning and during her tenure, she propelled our project forward in an important way. She considers herself a general practitioner of many fields and a burgeoning expert in a few. Her passion is in sustainable urbanism and she cares about cities almost as much as she is invested in making cities equitable for the people living in them. She received her B.A. in Honours Urban Studies from McGill University and currently lives in Boston.

She is now working full-time with the Boston Society for Architecture.
